Follow Along as I Try to Make Money with Amazon FBA – Introduction

I am extremely happy and excited to announce a new case study here at Passion into Paychecks. I am going to be private labeling my own product and selling it on Amazon. There is currently a lot of hype around this business model right now in the internet marketing space and you are only going to hear more and more about it in the upcoming months.

There are a lot of big name courses(Mainly Amazing Selling Machine) that are going to be released here in the next month or two. You will probably start seeing big name bloggers start pushing this course to all of their audiences and try to get you to sign up thru their affiliate link for a nice commission.

There isn’t anything wrong with this and I am sure the courses they are promoting are high quality and helpful. That high quality and helpful information doesn’t come without a price tag though, which will run you upwards of $3,500! A big part that a lot of the people pushing this course forget to tell you is that you will need AT LEAST $500 to get up and running on Amazon. This can be even higher depending on your product and how much inventory you order.

Most people do not have $4,000 – $10,000 to throw at a new business venture that they don’t know will be profitable or not. I don’t blame people for not wanting to do that but you do have to realize that you are setting up a real business for yourself. This isn’t a niche site that basically costs nothing to get started and if you are lucky will earn $500 a month 6 months from now. This is a business that take some initial investment but the possibility of reward is enormous!

What Can You Expect from me and this Case Study?

I am going to be documenting all of my progress here on this blog as I try and get a product up onto Amazon. I have not taken any paid courses about private labeling products or any type of course related to what I am going to be doing. I have found everything online for free and that is where I have gotten all of my information at this point. My plan is to absorb all of the information I can for free and figure everything else out on my own all while posting everything I find here for all of you.

As I go through the process of getting my first product on Amazon and selling, I will be explaining every step for you guys to learn from and follow. I would rather save $3,500 and use that for my inventory and on learning by doing then on a course. By not following the course and doing things on my own I will act as a crash course dummy. I will be a test dummy for all of you that want to get started selling on Amazon but don’t have enough money to buy the course AND all of your inventory.

My plan is to update you all very regularly as I go through the process of finding a product, finding a supplier and getting it on Amazon. It is not going to be that simple and there are a lot more details that go into private labeling a product and selling it but I will cover it all as I go through it myself.

How Will I Be Updating the Case Study?

I will be posting new updates very frequently on the site and I will show you every step of the way from beginning to the end. I will make use of videos a lot in this case study because I will be able to show you exactly what I am talking about visually instead of trying to explain everything through writing. I am going to be making videos for the niche research process, product selection, supplier selection and many other parts of the process that I feel are important.

I might even do some webinars to help answer questions that people may have or start a Facebook group for people that are looking to start selling on Amazon but don’t want to spend a ton of money on learning from a course. Instead, we can all learn together as a group and help each other out when possible. I am also open to suggestions that any of you may have so let me know!

I Have Already Started….but I Will Catch You All Up

I have already settled on a product that I am going to be selling but that is as far as I have gotten. I still am in the process of finding a good supplier that will do everything that I need.

The good news is that I will still have videos and updates covering the part that I have already completed. I will go through the whole process and explain every step. There will be a couple of updates to this case study that will come out here in the next week or two that will catch you all up to the point where I am at currently, which is looking for a supplier.

Even though I am already a little ahead, I am still going to be updating the case study from the very beginning of the process and explaining each step of the way. The next couple of updates will be coming out at a quick rate so that I can catch you all up to where I am currently at as quick as possible.

Will I be Sharing my Exact Product?

I am not sure yet. I don’t want to risk sharing my product and niche and then have people either a) try to sabotage my project or b) bring in extra competition that there wouldn’t be otherwise.

But I do see the benefit of sharing my product so I can use that as my example in everything I do in this case study. I am pretty torn on this decision and I am still deciding, I would love to hear what you all think about this. So please let me know in the comments below.

Will This be Free?

This whole case study is 100% free and I am not going to sell you anything. I am doing this because I want to document my progress as well as help people succeed on Amazon who don’t have the extra money to spend on courses. I think I have a pretty good grasp on what I need to do to be successful on Amazon but I will be constantly learning and everything that I learn will be shared here, with you.

To Sum it Up

To wrap up the first post in this case study, I want to tell you how excited I am to begin this case study and share with you my finding and help you be successful on Amazon without the need to buy courses. I may not have all of the knowledge to currently be successful on Amazon right at this minute but I will learn as I go. I am confident that I will be able to figure this thing out and make some money selling on Amazon. I do not want you to think that I am an expert, I am far from it, but what I am is someone with a burning desire to learn how to private label products on Amazon.

I hope that you are all excited but I understand that this type of business is not for everyone. Even if you are not interested in selling on Amazon right now maybe watching me go through all of the steps will spark some interest.

The next update will be out VERY soon and it will cover why I love the business model and my goals for this project. Stay tuned as it will be out soon. I am very excited to get this case study started and I hope you are all too! Thanks for reading.

I just found this, I’m really excited to see where it goes. Thanks much!

Hi Alex,

Glad to have you following along my friend, see ya around!

Well, my brother pointed me here. I was going to get ASM, but they released their price of $4,997. Oye! So, I’ll be following this with great interest, and trying to get going very soon myself.
Any resources that you can recommend? Thanks! 🙂

Hi Josh,

I’m glad that I’ve found this site! I like the idea of this project and I myself would like to give Amazon FBA a try.

I always think it’s too late to start on Amazon selling, but it would be interesting to start as an experiment.

Since I’m living in Hong Kong where it’s close to China so I would like to try bring products in from China.

I would like to keep you posted if you have a Facebook group of something.

Just found your content. Good stuff, but could you go back through and link the other Parts in the series in each post? Might be easier for future readers.

Great idea Matt, I will do that ASAP! Thank you for the suggestion and for commenting

Hi Josh,

I’m happy that I came across with this post, I really enjoy it very much, I myself have been doing some research in selling products in Amazon.

Like any other business venture, is all about doing your homework and not quitting.

So Josh, until next time have a nice day.

Warm regards,
Antonio Matos

Hi Antonio,

Glad you liked the post and you are right, you need to do the homework before going into a business like this. Thank you for commenting my friend

Hi Josh, I’m just getting started too. I am tossing up between shopify and amazon as they both have pros and cons. I think if you were to share your product listing and people visited then didn’t buy, it may affect your listing on amazon and may take you down the ranks/listings. Good luck!

Hey Edan,

First off thanks for commenting! As for shopify vs Amazon you could do both. My plan is to start selling on Amazon and then once I see some success I will begin to sell on my own shopify store. I am using Amazon has sort of a launch pad for my business.

Yes, you are correct Edan. If people were to visit my listing and not buy it would KILL my conversion rate which Amazon would take notice of and my listing would drop.

Thank you for commenting and I hope to see you around the site!

P.S. I like your site man!

Wow I am glad I happen to stumble on this site! Will follow your journey, and possibly emulate too!

Am delighted to have found your site. Thank you for the wonderful help you are giving us.
Advise you not to tell us your product (though I would love to know) as naturally people will click
on it and it will be downgraded if they do not buy! Wish you all the very best.Mary

Better let than never! I’m glad to find you Josh! I know months went by and you may not even see this post, but I would like to thank you for this initiative. I have just started reading your blog about Amazon Seller business model. It would be awesome to see how are you going so far. I’m going to spend all night reading and learning along. Yes, I’m on page one. But hey, it’s never late to start. I would love to see if you have changed and end up like other so called online entrepreneur or still carrying this great pioneer mind to help people who wants to make a difference. God bless my friend.

I see the web as California during the gold rush. I’m there looking for gold and I think I’ll stake a claim on your site. Looks like enough glittering through your commentary to make me want to dig a little deeper
